Portland, OR- Over 2000 people of diverse ages, cultures, and backgrounds will come together to celebrate the 2008 Portland International Women's Day Sunday, March 9th from 2:00-8:00pm in the Portland State University Smith Center Ballroom at 1825 SW Broadway. Now in its 33rd year, this annual celebration of the richness, strength, and value of women and their contributions to the community will be embracing "Women in Politics: Living as Examples" as the theme for 2008.

The celebration will feature performances by fabulous indie soul artist Liv Warfield, Rock & Roll Camp for Girls alumni Blübird, and sassy hip-hop duo The Alphabetix; a women's words room with readings by local writers including Ariel Gore and Renee Mitchell, educational workshops, a women's health fair, retail vendors and international food.  A $3 donation is requested at the door.  For more information on this year's event, visit www.piwd.org.

The mission of Portland International Women's Day is to provide opportunities for women and the community at large to discover similarities and learn from the differences in an environment that is respectful, inclusive, and supportive of the values and points of view of all women.  Portland International Women's Day 2008 is sponsored by the PSU Women's Resource Center, and brought to you by the Portland International Women's Day Planning Committee.

International Women's Day is observed in over 20 countries worldwide and is a United Nations sanctioned holiday.  The month of March is celebrated nationally as Women's History Month.
