Workshops
An important educational component, where women leaders in the community share their knowledge. Workshops at PIWD focus on a variety of topics, from health to business to creative self expression and more. Below is a list of workshop presenters at our 2011 event.

Amy Richards
Feminist activist, writer, and organizer

Amy Richards is co-founder of Third Wave Foundation, a national organization for feminists between the ages of 15 and 30, and she currently runs the feminist lecture agency Soapbox, Inc: Speakers Who Speak Out. She is co-author of Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future and Grassroots: A Field Guide for Feminist Activism, as well as author of Opting In: Having a Child Without Losing Yourself. Her writings have been published in The Nation, Ms., Bust, and numerous anthologies, and she also has written an advice column called Ask Amy at feminist.com since 1995. She has appeared in a range of media venues including Fox’s The O’Reilly Factor, Oprah, Talk of the Nation, and CNN.
Julia Serano
Trans activist and spoken word performer
Julia Serano is an Oakland, California-based writer, spoken word performer, trans activist, and biologist. Julia is the author of Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity (Seal Press, 2007. Her other writings have appeared in anthologies (including Yes Means Yes: Visions of Female Sexual Power and A World Without Rape, BITCHfest: Ten Years of Cultural Criticism from the Pages of Bitch Magazine and Word Warriors: 30 Leaders in the Women’s Spoken Word Movement) and in magazines and websites such as Bitch, AlterNet.org, Out, Feministing.com, Clamor, Kitchen Sink, make/shift, other, LiP and Transgender Tapestry. In recent years, Julia has gained noteriety in transgender, queer, and feminist circles for her unique insights into gender.
Andi Zeisler
Co-founder and editorial/creative director of Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture
A longtime freelance writer and illustrator, Andi's work has appeared in numerous periodicals and newspapers, including Ms., Mother Jones, Utne, BUST, The San Francisco Chronicle, the Women's Review of Books, and Hues. She is a former pop-music columnist for the SF Weekly and the East Bay Express, and also contributed to the anthologies Young Wives' Tales and Secrets and Confidences: The Complicated Truth About Women's Friendships (both from Seal Press). She is the coeditor of BitchFest: 10 Years of Cultural Criticism from the Pages of Bitch Magazine, and is currently working on a book about feminism and popular culture. She speaks frequently on the subject of feminism and the media at various colleges and universities.
